Firstly let me start this end-of-year blog mentioning the things I’m grateful for as this is what I spent 2017 focusing on most and not taking things for granted.
In the evenings I ask my 9 year-old son to think of one thing he’s grateful for that day. It’s a great habit that I highly recommend to all.
A lot of our business comes to us organically meaning that we’re kept busy thanks to previous clients recommending us to many others for which we are eternally grateful. We get a lot of recommendations from fellow MUAs and hairstylists, some of whom I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting, which makes their recommendations even more special. So THANK YOU all of you lovely people, for spreading the good word about the K-Team. All of your kind words are gratefully received.
I am also feeling grateful for the natural growth of the Academy. We’ve never had so many students from far and wide come to study our various courses – such as bridal makeup, hairstyling, high-glam masterclasses as well as portrait photography and my new business clinic for MUAs and hairstylists. The feedback has been outstanding and we look forward to welcoming many more students in 2018 and offering an even wider array of courses.
I’m also full of gratitude that the K-Team family are so lovely in every which way! They are a joy to work with, fun to lark about with, a mischievous bunch on nights out and the most professional, trustworthy and helpful human beings – totally devoted to delighting our brides with fabulous makeovers.
I was delighted to have been invited to join The Wedding Industry Awards judging panel. It’s so lovely to be part of this especially after being chosen as a National Winner back in 2013 which impacted on my business so positively. Since then I’ve always been the biggest fan of these awards.
So what’s in store for 2018…
Lots of weddings that’s for sure! Bookings have not slowed down in the winter despite the assumption that it is the “quiet season” for MUAs and bridal hairstylists. Just proving to us that we’re doing something right here at the K-Team HQ.
Personally I’ll be moving my main focus away from bridal bookings (after several years where my wedding booking count approached 100!) and letting the K-Team take over the reigns. I’ll still be taking brides but much fewer as I want to work more behind the scenes, moving the business on in various exciting ways.
With the girls ever-willing to travel to destination weddings we’re always excited to receive bookings to all manner of far-flung place for our brides. January and February are super-hot months for new bookings – and our super-efficient and friendly PA Jurate already has her sleeves rolled up and is ready to take care of the influx of new enquiries expected at the start of each year.
Last year was the busiest in terms of special occasion makeovers too – red-carpet events, awards nights, first dates, OBE ceremonies and our makeup and hairstyling regularly appearing on TV screens. We’ll of course continue creating flawless makeup and hair magic for all occasions so please get in touch if you’d like to look impeccably awesome for a special event.
Having met 200+ MUAs and hairstylists through teaching courses and masterclasses I’ve noticed some very similar pain points shared by many so am taking time out for most of January to put together some new courses to address these. Always thinking of adding as much value as possible to enable students to achieve their goals, gain the skills in bridal beauty that they are after and not to lose momentum no matter what life throws their way.
We’ll of course still be running out popular masterclasses in such things as creating the perfect brow-arch, colour matching as well as those ever-so-elusive eyeliner techniques. And our makeup lessons are always available for those who would like to master every aspect of their makeup routine in
a private 2-hour session.
In the meantime hair supremo Kasia is busy teaching lots of courses throughout January and beyond and the K-Team‘s makeup super-guru Aušra will be running more makeup courses at the Academy too.
The next Portrait Photography Masterclass will be on 15th January and the often raved-about High-Glam Makeup Masterclass on 28th January.
So what have I learned in 2017?
- That I really love destination weddings;
- That a cold shower is the best “wake-up call” for 4.30am starts;
- That everyone has a photogenic side and I’m pretty good at finding it;
- That people of the same seasonal colour type have similar personality characteristics – fascinating!
- That meditation is the key to a calm mind and a calm mind works so much more efficiently and creatively; and
- That eyelash serums really work! Mine have never looked so long and full.
That’s all for now, I’m off to complete my 2018 grand plan… just me and my trusty notebook. A written plan always means there is a greater chance of making your visions come to life.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
